Protect the blank before diagnosing
Slipping can create a visible seam, stretched artwork, a collision, or a rejected blank. Pause the run and mark the original setup before moving components. If the work is hot, damaged, unstable, or near the laser head, follow the machine's safe shutdown procedure before touching it.
Mechanical checks in the right order
- Clean the contact path: remove dust, residue, oil, and loose coating from the wheels and the blank using methods approved for those materials.
- Check level: confirm the rotary base, drive side, slave wheels, and blank are supported in the intended plane.
- Inspect O-rings and wheels: look for twisted, displaced, contaminated, worn, or damaged contact surfaces.
- Set the heel plate or end support: position it according to the manual so it prevents walking without binding the blank.
- Confirm spacing and pressure: maintain stable contact across rotation without crushing, deforming, or overloading the work.
- Rotate and watch: check a full revolution by the manufacturer-approved method before framing or firing the laser.
- Test a small pattern: use a safe sample and inspect the seam, scale, and tracking before returning to the production artwork.
