Before opening the rotary settings
Write down the laser manufacturer and exact model, motion controller, rotary model, selected motor or connection option, connector type, and current LightBurn version. Photograph the working machine configuration before changing it. Two plugs that look alike can have different wiring, and a value copied from a different rotary can produce the wrong motion.
Use this setup sequence
- Read the model instructions: use the current RotoBoss manual and machine-specific connection guidance for the purchased configuration.
- Make the machine safe: follow the laser manufacturer's shutdown or power-disconnection procedure before changing motion hardware.
- Install mechanically: place the rotary on a stable surface, align it to the machine's travel, support the blank, and confirm clearance through the full intended motion.
- Connect the approved configuration: never force a connector or assume pinout from its shape. Ask support when the controller, plug, or motor label is unclear.
- Enable rotary mode: choose the correct roller or chuck mode and enter the steps, rotation, or related values supplied for the exact device and machine.
- Measure the work: enter the diameter or circumference required by the selected mode using an accurate measurement at the engraving location.
- Frame and test: verify the travel path, run a low-risk test on a sacrificial or approved sample, and stop immediately if motion is unexpected.
- Save the verified setup: give the profile a specific name that includes the laser, rotary, configuration, and blank family.
Do not hide a mechanical problem with software
If the blank walks, slips, rocks, or loses contact, correct the mechanical setup before changing scale or step values. If motion is smooth but the engraved circumference is consistently wrong, recheck the selected rotary mode, entered measurement, and model-specific value. Change one variable at a time and record the result.
Stop and verify
Confirm the approved motor connection and direction procedure for the machine. Do not swap wires by guesswork.
Recheck inputs
Confirm the measured diameter or circumference, mode, and manufacturer-provided rotary value.
Fix workholding
Check level, surface contact, heel-plate position, wheel support, and pressure before software.
Prove repeatability
Unload, reload, and repeat the test before treating the profile as production-ready.
This is a general workflow, not a substitute for the current laser, controller, or RotoBoss manual. Machine-specific instructions control. If the motor, pinout, driver current, connection, or movement is uncertain, stop and contact the manufacturers before energizing the equipment.
Use the exact RotoBoss resource for the hardware.
The manuals page collects the current setup, video, troubleshooting, and support paths in one place.
